
Shanthi Mathai is an enterprising academic and seasoned professional with a distinguished career spanning over two decades. Her comprehensive experience includes the areas of communication, journalism, social organisation, and women’s empowerment. With a profound commitment to education, she has dedicated the past 15 years to teaching in higher education, where she has inspired countless students and guided more than sixty students in postgraduate research and career development. Her academic interests are focused on communication research, gender studies, cultural studies, journalism, and film studies. Her contribution to the academic field covers six research papers published in reputed journals, along with many book chapters and articles. She has explored her creative talents through a poetry book in Malayalam titled Ethirpattu and has written several poems in both English and Malayalam, showcasing her versatility as a scholar and artist. Her leadership, organizational skills, communication abilities, and project management expertise make her an invaluable asset in any academic or professional setting. As a speaker and trainer, she actively engages with diverse audiences to foster a deeper understanding of complex issues in communication and gender studies. She had held various positions, including HOD, SH School of Communication, SH College (Autonomous), Reporter and Special Correspondent at People’s Reporter, Columnist at Vanitha Bodhini, Assistant Professor at JICM, Bhopal and Jagran Lakecity University, Bhopal, Secretary of Young Women’s Forum, ACWC and Secretary of Mar Thoma Women’s Commission, and Researcher and Coordinator for Ecumenical Women at the United Nations, NY. Shanthi has also represented her expertise at various international and national conferences across the United States, Canada, Taiwan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Archana Women’s Centre, Ettumanoor and a founding member of the movement ‘Nonkilling India’.
